Synods which port
It is call to humility, to be a servant and to discern. Archbishop Gordon and bishops of the Antilles Episcopal Conference AEC joined bishops around the world in launching the diocesan phase of the world synod on Synodality. Pope Francis on October 7 opened the two-year synodal journey with Mass in Rome. He said the synod Pope Francis has set in motion is for the Church around the world to be a listening Church. Archbishop Gordon used the image in Exodus of the Israelites walking together, guided by a cloud by day and fire by night, as an analogy for the synod journey.
The Church today is called to be a listening Church to take direction from God. He said a new epoch has arrived, and those who did not believe should speak to their children and grandchildren about the faith. The church is also running two programmes for Christian-Muslim dialogue.

Helen Bourne, principal at St Michael's Primary School in Nelson Bay, said that it was important for her to represent not only the school and church districts, but the entire Port Stephens community.
Synod members. Another St Michael's member and advisory for the Bishop, Liz Latham, said that she hoped to bring a future that is open and inclusive to all. The diocese's Bishop, Bill Wright, said that the church had been formally consulting on the matters for discussion for more than 18 months as part of its synod process.
